Self-Care And Putting 'Me' First

Kylie’s proudest moment in life was giving birth to her two beautiful daughters. “They were the hardest, yet most special moments of my life. Nothing shakes you up and changes you on every level, like becoming a mum,” Kylie shares.
The early days of motherhood went pretty smooth for Kylie, but when her second child came along, she was met with her biggest challenge yet. “I was always panicking and worrying to the point where I was catastrophising stuff. I’d never experienced this before. I didn’t know what was happening. I didn’t know what was wrong with me.”
It was only when Kylie reached out to a doctor and psychologist, that she learned she was going through post-natal anxiety. "It has been a challenge," she explains, “I’ve since kept the anxiety, but I’m learning how to manage it.” Kylie has found when putting herself first with self-care, exercise, and rest; she feels her most happiest and healthiest. “When I have filled my own cup, I can then give from a place of love and not a place of stress. It’s a ripple effect.”
Don’t think that having time to yourself or resting as selfish. As a mum, we tend to put ourselves last. But we’re not giving the best version of ourselves when we’re depleted. I think it’s important to invest in ‘me time’. You looking after you because you’re giving the better version of yourself versus what’s leftover.
- Exercise - being a Personal Trainer, exercise is important to move the anxious energy
- Meditation - I meditate a few times a week in the mornings, it really helps
- Nutrition - I feel great when I eat healthy foods. If my eating goes downhill, it's a sign for me that things aren't good mentally
- Counselling - I see my psychologist on a regular basis to help manage the anxiety
- Friends - I'm so lucky to have a great group of friends. They are mums as well, and we catch up regularly to share about our issues. I'm getting better at opening up and sharing.
- Family - my husband is really supportive whenever I need to have some 'me time'. He's really good at taking the girls and giving me some space.
